Where to find redwoods in the Redwood Empire: While the
ideal Redwood Empire visit is a six day journey winding up
the craggy coastline, many visitors to San Francisco make
the quick jaunt across the Golden Gate Bridge to see the
nearest (and most visited) redwood grove located at Muir
Woods in Western Marin County. Perhaps the most famous
redwood tree of all is located in Del Norte County where, as
if to drive home the point about the massive size of these
wonders, the base of one of the trees was hollowed out so
cars could be allowed to pass through. The largest
concentration of redwoods is located in the heart of
Humboldt County along what is known as "The Avenue of
the Giants." California redwoods have gained
international acclaim of late, as environmental activists
and motion-picture celebrities have initiated demonstrations
in support of Humboldt’s Headwaters Forest of old growth
redwoods. |
